Witness His Majesty: “The Innkeeper’s Family”

Luke 2:1-7

I. Jesus the Christ was born a human. (vs 6-7)

1. He was born at the perfect time.

Galatians 4:4

2. He shared common human traits.

3. He knew three critical human experiences.

a. He was tempted.

b. He suffered.

c. He died.

II. Jesus the Christ Identified with the condition of humanity.

1. He assumed our likeness.

Psalm 19:1

John 17:5

2. He had a human family.

3. He had human body that could be embraced and touched.

4. He had a soul… full of emotions.

III. The necessity of Jesus the Christ’s humanity.

1. As a man Jesus made atonement for sin.

2. As a man Jesus gives the hope of the bodily resurrection.

I Corinthians 15:21

3. As a man Jesus is the perfect example.

FAITH SHEET QUESTIONS:

1. We should assume the innkeeper humbled himself to serve Mary when she needed a place to rest. In what ways should our Lord’s incarnation humble us?

2. Can you think of three persons to teach about the Lord and his salvation? How will you share with them? Write down your plan, including when you hope to share and what you hope to say.

3. As you meditate on the incarnation…do you treasure these things in your own heart?

4. How important is it to the gospel story that God the Son became a man, Jesus, who had all our human traits and was tempted in his flesh, suffered in his body and died? How would you explain how important that is to another person?

5. Read I Corinthians 15:21 out loud to someone or in your C or D group. Do you hear “His Majesty?” In what ways?
